I joined Delta Behavioral Health in July 2017. I believe therapy is a cooperative, mutual relationship of respect and acceptance that fosters effective change based on each person's goals and values.
Background and Training
I received my Masters of Science in Education with a focus in Counseling from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1984. I am a licensed in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and have over 30 years of clinical experience in inpatient, outpatient, partial hospital and administrative settings. I also have 12 years of experience managing mental health/substance use services at the regional and state level. This allows me to be mindful of the interaction of the dynamic and practical components of the systems of care.
As a former Marriage and Family Therapist, I received training in family structure, attachment and communication. I was trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy at Delta Behavioral Health.
Current Practice
In my current practice I use a variety of clinical approaches to help clients identify and address their concerns. These approaches include DBT-informed approaches, Acceptance and Commitment strategies, client-centered/supportive therapy, and exposure strategies for the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, panic, trauma, grief, relationship issues, parenting, sexuality and spirituality. I also work with individuals who are dually diagnosed – experiencing both mood and substance use issues.
My clinical practice focuses on adults, ages 18-65+ who are experiencing mental health and/or substance use concerns. I work primarily with adults in Individual therapy. I facilitate a DBT skills training group that meets weekly and am one of the DBT trainers for Delta's Intensive Outpatient Program.
Insurance and Payment Information
I participate in the following insurance networks: BCBS, United Healthcare, and Aetna, and have a self-pay scale.
