Delta Behavioral Health Internship Program

Graduate Student Internships with Delta Behavioral Health

Delta has a limited number of structured intensive internships and accepts Psychology, Clinical Social Work, and Counseling program graduate students, both from universities in the area and on-line schools. Delta has established relationships with local and regional universities. Major professional organization accreditation has not been established, and the internship is still an exceptional experience. Delta provides on-site supervision and will coordinate as needed with school supervisors as well as complete any school reports needed. The internship program runs in Delta’s Facility Programs division, which includes the Partial Hospital Program and Intensive Outpatient Program. Clients are admitted to the program and are diagnosed with a variety of mental health and/or substance use disorders. Programs serve clients multiple days a week, providing many opportunities for direct client contact every day.

The internship includes 2 hours of weekly seminar training sessions in DBT in addition to 1 hour of individual therapy review once seeing individuals. Interns will be members of one or our DBT teams and within a few weeks of training will start running DBT skills groups, and conducting behavioral and solution analyses. Once trained, interns participate in the rotation of the program’s DBT coaching phone, and conduct individual therapy with one assigned client at a time. Recorded individual therapy sessions are coded for adherence to DBT principles and individually reviewed with the intern in a constructive feedback session.

Interested students should contact John McIntyre, LCMHC, at Delta Behavioral Health. He can be reached at 910-343-6890 by leaving a message. There is no formal application to complete; you will talk with him to determine if your needs can be met and if you might be a good fit for our program. If so, you will attend an interview in person or on-line and shortly after, you will be notified of the results.

Undergraduate Student “Internships” with Delta Behavioral

Delta can generally take one undergraduate student to work in our clinical setting with our Case Management department. Students are typically enrolled in a Directed Individual Study class or its equivalent at their university or department. Interested students can contact Amanda (Mandi) Harberger at Delta Behavioral Health. She can be reached at 910-343-6890 by leaving a message. Mandi will complete any school evaluations and coordinate with your instructor if you are selected.

Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Preceptorships

Nurse practitioner students or physician assistant students can participate in an immersive psychiatric experience at Delta. Students would work with an experienced FNP/PMHNP to learn prescribing practices in an intensive outpatient setting. Students would work with patients in Delta’s intensive Partial Hospital or Intensive Outpatient programing as well as those in standard outpatient services. Provider’s patient care is
enhanced by the on-site, private branch of a laboratory company that has co-located at our facility.

nterested students should contact Paige Houser, FNP/PMHNP, at Delta Behavioral Health. She can be reached at 910-343-6890 by leaving a message. She will contact you regarding the process of applying, interviewing and selection.
