Hayhurst-Chacon, Nina (MA, LPA)
I completed my undergraduate work at Campbell University in 2005 and moved to Wilmington for graduate school at UNCW for the clinical psychology program. While attending UNCW, I completed my practicum at Pender County Correctional and my internship at the Naval Hospital in Camp Lejeune working with active duty service men and women. I had the opportunity to obtained training in exposure therapy and emotional processing in treating those exposed to trauma while at Camp Lejeune. Upon receiving my Master’s degree in 2008, I joined Easter Seals UCP and gained valuable experience working with children and their families/foster families through community support services in providing interventions for mental health needs. Following my time at Easter Seals, I joined an agency serving the rural community of Brunswick County providing individual, family and couples therapy.
My primary approach in therapy is Cognitive Behavioral while using the foundation of a therapeutic relationship. I work with individuals who are dealing with adjustment issues, depression, anxiety disorders including panic disorder, phobias and PTSD, as well as impulse control issues like OCD and trichotillomania. I also work well with pre-adolescent to adolescents with conduct disorder and oppositional defiance disorder using a combination of individual and family therapy depending on the need.
